We are excited to celebrate our students and the Interior Design Industry.  We hope you will join us during this special time of the year!   We begin by welcoming our keynote speaker Abimbola Asojo, Associate Dean from the University of Minnesota Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs who will be presenting, “Addressing the disproportionate impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic in BIPOC communities through Design,” (see additional information below).  We will also be inviting all students to participate in the IIDA Spark! Event, an opportunity to connect with fellow interior design students and professionals in the interior design industry.

Our week will conclude with the senior student teams presenting their Senior Capstone Projects!   Come and visit the NDSU Interior Design Senior Showcase exhibit in the NDSU Memorial Union Prairie Rose room from 9am-5pm April 25th – 28th and see the projects the students have been working on with their senior project teammates. We hope you will be able to join us this week as we celebrate our students and our industry!

ASID Fundraiser

The NDSU Student Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) will be holding a Fundraiser at Blaze Pizza for Down Home on Monday April 24th from 5:00-8:00pm. Special Thanks to Blaze Pizza for helping us make this fundraiser possible!

All proceeds from this fundraiser will be matched by the NDSU Student Chapter of the ASID and donated to Down Home in Fargo, ND.

Down Home empowers lives by furnishing homes for families and individuals emerging from homelessness. Entering housing is an important step in the journey of emerging from homelessness, yet four walls is not enough to solve the problem. In the United States, half of those who enter housing return to shelters within the year. Down Home helps end the cycle of homelessness by creating homes and a community where families and individuals find comfort, dignity, stability, and connection.

Orders may be placed online or in person.  CLICK HERE to access the promo code and additional information about the fundraiser.

In conjunction with 2023 Design Week, Abimbola Asoja, Associate Dean from the University of Minnesota Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs, will be presenting, “Addressing the disproportionate impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic in BIPOC communities through Design,” April 25, 2023 at 12 noon to kick off our event.

Her presentation will highlight three projects, the first project focuses on a service delivery in a diverse county during the pandemic; the second project focuses on how design was used to address learning gaps among grades K through 12 students in a school zone with an exceptionally high educational achievement gap; and the third project presents a community-based design project for the Maji Ya Chai Land Sanctuary in Minnesota.

This virtual keynote presentation will be open to the campus community, interior design students, faculty, and design professionals in the area.   In addition to the Keynote presentation, Fargo Design Week activities also includes the NDSU Interior Design Senior Showcase, IIDA Spark Event, and concludes with Capstone Presentations.

Ignite Creativity!

The IIDA SPARK event is a design charrette that allows students and professionals to come together to explore ideas, share experiences, and spark connections. The SPARK design competition provides a great opportunity for students to collaborate and ignite creative solutions based on the selected design challenge. This event will be from 2:30-4:30 in FLC 116 on Thursday April 27th.

What is a charrette?

For the Spark charrette, students will work with a partner to solve a design challenge.  In a set amount of time, you and your partner will come up with a creative design solution.  You will be given the project parameters and some design tools.  Students can bring inspirational images, and any design tools they prefer to use. Some of the things you will need to create could include sketches, plans, and details.  At the end of the competition, you will create a project board that shows your solution to the design problem.

Special thanks to IIDA Northland Chapter for sponsoring this event!
