Construction Management & Engineering

Construction Management & Engineering is a combination of engineering technology, construction techniques, and management to meet the needs of the rapidly growing construction industry. The program is designed to prepare students for the art of achieving maximum profit by efficient use of people, machines, materials and other resources to complete a construction project on time and to the satisfaction of the owner. A meld of engineering, construction, management and business gives the student a background and understanding of a management point of view in the construction industry

Some research areas currently of interest to Construction Management & Engineering include:

  • Lean and Green Construction
  • Virtual Design and Construction (Visualization and BIM development, and implantation)
  • Advanced concrete techniques (sustainable concrete, pavement quality assessment and assurance, and new concrete materials and structures)
  • Buildings design and building construction using Building Information Modeling (BIM), Virtual Reality (VR), and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
  • Spatial characterization and/or simulation of earth science data (e.g. soil data for earthwork shrinkage calculations) in transportation projects
  • Under the weather: Studying the effects of climate on constructed infrastructure - precipitation, temperature and wind data characterization
  • Sustainable infrastructure and environment
  • Modeling and simulation of construction processes and equipment, cost estimation and risk analysis of complex projects
  • Geopolymer Concrete Research - the design and chemistry of sustainable and advanced materials for infrastructure - e.g fly-ash geopolymer concrete, glascrete (the use of glass in concrete) and others
