DOCTORATE IN COUNSELOR EDUCATION AND SUPERVISION

Academic preparation and professional experiences for the doctoral degree are designed to prepare students to become knowledgeable counselor educators, formidable leaders and advocates, competent researchers, and/or advanced counselors and supervisors in a variety of settings.  More specifically, the doctoral program prepares students to be competent in five areas: counseling, supervision, teaching, research and scholarship, and leadership and advocacy.  Example doctoral courses include Advanced Multicultural Practice in Counselor Education and Supervision, Instructional Theory Practice in Counselor Education and Supervision, and Counselor Supervision.

The Counselor Education and Supervision track requires a minimum of 60 graduate semester credits beyond the master's degree.  It also includes the successful completion of practicum and internship experiences, written and oral comprehensives, and a dissertation.  Students take between four and seven years to complete the requirements.
