North Dakota State University (NDSU) NSF Track-II AI SUSTEIN 2022 Summer Research Experiences for Undergraduate (REU)
NDSU has recently been awarded a multiyear NSF Track-2 RII program “RII Track-2 FEC: Artificial Intelligence on Sustainable Energy Infrastructure Network (AI SUSTEIN) and Beyond towards Industries of the Future”. This summer, the AI SUSTEIN program will offer an undergraduate research experience program at NDSU with a focus on AI applications in a variety of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and business areas such as computer science, industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer engineering, or any related engineering, pre-engineering, mathematics, statistics, and economics, etc. This program is intended to provide a coordinated, educational and dynamic research community to encourage research in the undergraduate study for minority students such as students from tribal colleges (TCs), minority-serving institution (MSIs), and Hispanic serving institutions (HSIs). RESEARCH PROJECT
The AI SUSTEIN Program is led by NDSU with collaborators from the University of Arkansas - Fayetteville (UARK), University of Nevada - Las Vegas (UNLV), and Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College (NHSC), to establish collaborative research, workforce development, and education to investigate the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a driving force for bringing about radical changes to critical infrastructures and industries. Mentors for the program at NDSU include:

- Dr. Trung Le (Assistant professor, industrial and manufacturing engineering)
- Dr. Saeed Salem (Professor, computer science)
- Dr. Di Wu (Assistant professor, electrical engineering)
- Dr. Nita Yodo (Assistant professor, industrial and manufacturing engineering)
- Dr. James Caton (Assistant professor, economics)
WHERE: The North Dakota State University's main campus in Fargo, ND.
WHEN: The program runs for 8 weeks from June 9th to August 5th, 2022.
WHO: Undergraduate students who are currently enrolled in a degree program at a college or university and will not graduate before December 2022. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Preference will be given to minority students from tribal colleges (TCs), minority-serving institutions (MSIs), and hispanic serving institutions (HSIs), etc.
BENEFITS: Participants will receive a stipend of $500/week (total of $4,000 for an 8-week program). On-campus housing will be included. Meal allowance of $25 per day for 8 weeks (total $1,400 for 56 days). Travel supports up to $700 upon request.
