Application process

Interested undergraduates are invited to apply (see REU Application page for guidelines for applying). A panel will review all applications and notify accepted applicants by early spring. Accepted REU participants will join an online community (Slack or Facebook) to begin building a network of colleagues.

Travel

Growing up STEM begins Tuesday, May 31, 2022. Participants are expected to arrive prior to May 31 to ensure time to settle into on-campus housing and the Fargo Community. Travel to Fargo via (1) Hector International Airport, (2) Amtrak, or (3) by car.

Our program

On Tuesday, May 31, 2022 REU participants will walk the NDSU campus as part of their orientation to our community. Students will meet with their mentors, tour the campus, and end the day with a welcome BBQ at a local park.

Throughout the 10 weeks, students will:

  • Meet regularly with project mentor(s)
  • Meet regularly with their cohort to build research skills, communication skills, and content knowledge
  • Conduct independent research (approximately 40 hours per week)
  • Have fun!

In the final week, students formally present their research through a campus-wide poster symposium. Students depart NDSU on Saturday, August 6. Outstanding posters may receive funding to attend and present at a national conference in the 2022-23 academic year.
