Accelerated Master's Program

The Department of Computer Science now offers the Accelerated Bachelor and Master of Science Program for our majors. A master’s degree is becoming more valuable in today’s job market, but it usually means the extra expense and time of two more years in school. This program was created so high-achieving Bachelor of Science (B.S.) students can take graduate level courses as an undergraduate and have them count toward both their Bachelor of Science Undergraduate Degree and a Master of Science Graduate Degree in Computer Science. This program allows students with a good undergraduate academic record to apply 15 credits of graduate work to their undergraduate degree.

HOW IT WORKS

To be eligible, a student must meet all of the following requirements:

  1. Be currently enrolled in the B.S. in Computer Science degree program;
  2. Have completed a minimum of 60 credits with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher;
  3. Have passed at least 5 of the following 6 courses with a grade of C or higher: CSCI 213, CSCI 222, CSCI 313, CSCI 366, CSCI 372, MATH 166.

The student  needs to complete and submit the Accelerated Degree Program Declaration form, which identifies the graduate courses to be taken and which undergraduate courses in the undergraduate program will be replaced by these graduate courses.

These replacements are recommended but not required. You can use replacements from any track or any 600-level course of a 400/600 combination will work, but notice that the M.S. program allows, at most, 6 credits at the 600 level. All others having to be at the 700 or 800 level. If you are interested in a particular 700-level course, please check with your advisor which electives at the 400 level may have matching content.

Please note that accelerated students will be enrolled in only one or two GRAD classes each semester with the majority of their enrollment at the UGRD level until they have successfully completed their UGRD degree.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Students interested should contact their academic advisor and submit the Accelerated Degree Program Declaration Form (requires NDUS login) to the computer science graduate coordinator who will work with the undergraduate coordinator to approve the application. After the declaration form is approved, students will need to formally apply for admission to the graduate program through here.
