Bison Accessibility Portal (Students) FAQ

Approved Accommodations

Will I still have to have my professor sign a letter for the accommodations I am eligible for in each of my course(s)?

No. In the past, students would have to come to the Center for Accessibility and Disability Resources (CADR) and have a document printed off, then delivered to their professor to fill out, and then returned to CADR. With the new system, you will log into the Bison Accessibility Portal and select the approved accommodations you would like for each course. The professor will then receive an e-mail with your approved accommodations.

Can I go into the Bison Accessibility Portal and modify my accommodations and/or select modifications I haven’t had in the past?

No, you can only select accommodations that you have been approved for and have had in the past. If you feel that you need to change the accommodations you receive, you will need to schedule a meeting with an Accessibility Specialist to discuss your educational accommodations.

Do I need to select my accommodations each semester?

Yes. Each semester you will need to log into the Bison Accessibility Portal and select the accommodations you want for each class.

Do I need to select an accommodation if I don’t need it for a class?

Absolutely not. You only need to sign up for accommodations you feel you need for each class. If you do not feel you need any accommodations for a particular class, you can choose not to have any.

Testing Accommodations

Since I don’t have to bring an accommodations form filled out and signed by my professor, how will Disability Services staff know when my exams are scheduled in CADR?

You will be responsible for scheduling your exams using the Bison Accessibility Portal. As soon as you know the testing schedule for your courses, it is a good idea to schedule your exams and quizzes for the entire semester. You are required to schedule your exams at least 5 days before the exam. When you schedule your exam, a notice is sent to CADR as well as your instructor.

What happens if I forget to schedule my exam and want to schedule an exam in less than 5 days?

If you don’t schedule your exam, your instructor has no way to upload the exam to CADR. If you miss the 5-day window, the system will give you a message that you scheduled the exam late and the scheduled exam will need to be approved. There is also a note field that must be filled out with the reason for the late schedule. We cannot guarantee that we can schedule your exam on the calendar and/or the professor will have your exam uploaded to CADR. You may have to take the exam in class or discuss rescheduling with your instructor.

What happens if I put in the wrong time or the exam is rescheduled?

If you put in the wrong time or the exam is rescheduled, it is your responsibility to reschedule. You can do that by either modifying the existing exam schedule or deleting the exam and scheduling a new time. It is your responsibility to reschedule. If you don’t reschedule, there is no way for the instructor to upload your exams or for CADR to put you on the schedule.

Can I schedule my exams any time I want?

Yes and no. You should schedule your exams at the same time as the rest of your class unless you have an agreement with your instructor to take yours the at a different time. When you schedule an exam, your instructor receives an e-mail with the time you scheduled the exam and they can choose to approve or not approve the time.

What if I forget to come in for the exam or decide to take the exam in class?

If you miss an exam or take it in class, the system will record that you missed the exam and an email will be sent to your instructor. If you decide to take the exam in class rather than in CADR, please log into the Bison Accessibility Portal and cancel your exam time. This is not only a courtesy for CADR staff, but by doing so it will not register in the system that you missed the exam.
