Institutional Memberships

Institutional memberships help ensure that our degree programs adhere to current standards and best practices established by the profession. The professional organizations listed below require an initial review during application to ensure programs meet basic professional standards, and supplemental periodic review ensures our programs are focused upon continuous improvement as the field evolves.

American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE)

The American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) is the leading voice on educator preparation. AACTE represents more than 800 post-secondary institutions with educator preparation programs dedicated to high-quality, evidence-based preparation that assures educators are ready to teach all learners. Institutional membership in AACTE ensures that our Teacher Education programs adhere to current standards and best practices in educator preparation.

Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED)

CPED is an inter-institutional discussion about reclaiming the Education Doctorate, or the Ed.D. The Education Doctoral Programs were selected as a member of the second wave of the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED) and have been a participating partner since August, 2011. As a member of the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate, we believe that: “The professional doctorate in education prepares educators for the application of appropriate and specific practices, the generation of new knowledge, and for the stewardship of the profession.”

University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA)

The University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA) is a consortium of the top higher education research institutions committed to advancing the preparation and practice of educational leaders for the benefit of schools and children. UCEA actively initiates and leads educational reform efforts through its high quality research and preparation programs.

In order to be admitted to full membership, institutions must undergo a rigorous institutional and program review similar to an accreditation review process. The Educational Leadership program area faculty have recently taken the first steps of becoming a member of UCEA as a demonstration of the quality of our programs and a further commitment to continuous program improvement.
