Instructors are encouraged (but not required) to add the following statement to syllabi.  This information is an important reminder to instructors about their reporting responsibilities as well as an important reminder to students about what information must be reported.

North Dakota State University is committed to providing a safe, healthy, and non-discriminatory learning, living, and working environment for all members of its university community. All NDSU employees, (with the exception of the confidential reporters in NDSU Counseling Center,  NDSU Student Health Service,  NDSU Ombuds, and NDSU Sexual Assault Prevention and Advocacy), including part-time employees and student employees, are considered mandated reporters according to NDSU Policy 156, Section 10 and NDSU Policy 162, Section 7. As a mandatory reporter, I am required to report any information of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or sexual misconduct to the Equal Opportunity and Title IX Compliance Office.   All mandatory reporters, including part-time employees and student employees, are required to report any incidents of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or sexual misconduct they become aware of, even if those incidents occurred in the past or are disclosed as part of a class assignment. This does not mean an investigation will occur if the student does not want that, but it does allow NDSU to provide resources to help the student continue to be successful. If you have experienced discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or sexual misconduct, you can find information about both on-campus and off-campus resources, including confidential support services, by visiting    https://www.ndsu.edu/deanofstudents/student_accountability/support_resources_for_students/. For more information, please contact the Equal Opportunity and Title IX Compliance Office at ndsu.eoaa@ndsu.edu, 701-231-7708, or Old Main 201.

To view additional information that may be added to your syllabi regarding mental health, student resources, and the requirement of mandatory reporting, please visit https://www.ndsu.edu/presidentscouncil/resources/syllabus_statement/. This information was created collaboratively between the Equal Opportunity and Title IX Compliance Office and the President’s Council for Campus Well-Being.
