It will provide a transformative educational experience for our students.NDSU will accelerate the construction timeline so that students will be able to benefit from the facility as early as Fall 2026.
Agricultural Field Lab
The new facility will consolidate field lab programs currently housed in four separate buildings across campus, creating integrated research spaces that will enhance productivity across the entire NDSU agriculture research enterprise for faculty, staff, and students. Students (graduate and undergraduate) will use the building for the research they are involved in. The building will include space utilized in plant breeding, agronomy, weed science, horticulture, plant pathology, and soil science. The research will result in plant varieties that are better adapted to North Dakota growing conditions, improved soil fertility and fertilizer recommendations, improved solutions for weed control, and better solutions to plant disease threats for North Dakota farmers and ranchers today and well into the future. The building will not have any classroom space included.
Peltier Complex
The mainstay of the agricultural industry in the state is the ability of North Dakota to continue producing and marketing superior crop and livestock commodities worldwide. In connection with this, the construction of a new facility that houses crop quality, food science, and meat science teaching and research programs is critical to maintaining or advancing the cereal chemistry/cereal quality, food science, meat science, and food safety and security programs that exist at NDSU. These programs are not only important in ensuring food security for the citizens of North Dakota and the surrounding region but also in the ability to trade the state’s products internationally. The new building is needed to address the health, safety, food grade and code issues of the current facilities – Harris Hall and the Meats Lab – and to provide for improved efficiencies by co-locating necessary core research, teaching, and outreach areas in one unit. Northern Crops Institute will be moving to the new building. NCI’s mission is to support regional agriculture and value added processing by conducting educational and technical programs that expand and maintain domestic and international markets for northern grown crops. The ND Trade Office will also be collocated in the new complex.
A new state-of-the-art facility will be constructed on the SW corner of 18th St N and Centennial Blvd. The three-to-four story building will be designed with high ceilings in first floor areas to accommodate large milling equipment and chain hoists for meat and crop materials. Truck access to products in the crop and meat areas will allow for safe delivery and pick-up. The new facility would house shared quality, analytical and sensory laboratories with state-of-the-art analytical equipment that could be utilized by multiple users and foster affiliations between crops and meats programs. Bio-processing of crops and co-products, product development, and end-use evaluation will also benefit. The new facility will promote collaborative research and interactions among scientists, thereby making our scientists more competitive in obtaining extramural funding. The facility would also meet all codes, especially health codes dealing with food products and safety.

Program consolidation into one building which will allow sections of the College of Health Profession to move out of leased spaces. This will lead to increased inter-professional educational opportunities for students and enhance collaborative learning among students and gain better instructional efficiencies for faculty, staff, and students within the College.
The project will include several add-alternates to fit-up the fourth and sixth floors. These alternates will be accepted if the bids come in favorably. If we are not able to accept these alternates, the building structure will be in place and we will fit-up the spaces when funding allows. Theses spaces will be used for several purposes:
- A simulated -pharmacy instructional lab, including prescription processing, medication therapy management, and sterile and non-sterile compounding labs, telepharmacy, and institutional pharmacy space.
- Move further resources out of leased spaces and into the addition.
Catherine Cater Hall
The current design for the New Residence Hall encompasses an approximately 130,000 sq. ft., six-story tall building containing around 390 beds that will be targeted towards second year students. The first floor will incorporate the hall’s building services, public and community spaces, such vending, laundry, hall director office, community room, and tentative community kitchen, along with separate apartments for a Residence Hall Director and a Faculty-in-Residence. Floors two through six will each be separated into two wings that will accommodate all of the student resident rooms along with resident commons spaces. Each wing will house a 39-student ‘community’ composed of approximately nineteen 2-bedroom, double occupancy units with a shared bathroom and one separate single occupancy RA suite with bathroom along with a community study room. The two-bedroom double occupancy units average 630 sq. ft. each and the RA unit is 250 sq. ft. Each floor of two communities will share a central floor lounge, smaller study/huddle spaces and floor support spaces.
