Students must be accepted into the HNES Graduate Program before they can be considered for a graduate assistantship.
APPOINTMENTS: We offer graduate assistantships for both masters and doctoral students. All assistantship awards are renewable on a yearly basis dependent upon student performance, and are for either 10 or 20 hours per week. Stipends range from $5,400 to $10,800 for master’s students and $10,800 to $21,600 for doctoral students depending on the weekly hours.  Students are typically provided shared offices, computers, and access to printers, support staff, etc. Assistantship awards typically begin the week before fall semester classes and continue through finals week of spring semester. Summer is not included in most assistantship awards.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Review of assistantship applications begins on March 15 and continues until positions are filled.

PLACEMENT:   We place the majority of our graduate assistants with HNES faculty assisting with research and or teaching. 

QUALIFICATIONS:   To be considered for a GA, a student must first be admitted into Exercise Science/Nutrition master’s program or the PhD program in Exercise Science and Nutrition. Students in the online Dietetics master’s program are not eligible for assistantship awards. 

APPLICATION:  North Dakota State University's application procedure places responsibility on the applicant for gathering all supporting credentials and submitting them with the application through the University’s online application system. In this way, you can be certain that your Application, Reasons for Graduate Study Statement, Application Fee, Transcripts, and letters of Recommendation are submitted and that your application is complete with the exception of any required test scores. This will allow NDSU to process your application and make a decision in a timely fashion.   Application for graduate school is made through The Graduate School.
