HSE student ambassadors create blankets for Ronald McDonald House
Giving back to the community they live in is very important to the student ambassadors in the College of Human Sciences and Education. Their personal ties to the Ronald McDonald House had them tying blankets for those in need.
Earlier this month, 19 students volunteered to measure, cut and tie 16 child-sized blankets to benefit youth in our community.
“These blankets are given to families of sick children who are in the hospital in the Fargo area,” said Andrea Abrahamson, academic advisor in the College of Human Sciences and Education. “The blankets provide a personal touch for a lasting impact for families in need.”
Each semester HSE Ambassadors select a service project in order to give back to their community. Their efforts aim to expand relationships within the community, while spreading awareness of the college and organization.
“This is the second year that I have helped the HSE ambassadors make tie blankets for the Ronald McDonald House, and I have loved doing it both times,” said Eliza Johnson, dietetics student and HSE ambassador president. “We have a new group of ambassadors this year and it was great to see them all talking and bonding over similar classes and interests while making these blankets. Not only is this event great to connect with the FM community, but it helps connect members within our club as well. I asked the group afterwards if they would like to do this again next year, and it was an easy yes from every person. We can’t wait to turn this service project into an HSE ambassador tradition!”
HSE Ambassadors are undergraduate students selected to represent the college at selected events for alumni, community leaders, prospective students and others. Students are selected through an application process. There are currently 34 student ambassadors.
