Graduate study is offered in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (IME) in three areas: Master of Science, Master of Engineering, and Doctor of Philosophy. Graduate students collaborate with faculty advisors to tackle challenges at the forefront of 21st-century engineering. Those pursuing the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees are expected to contribute one or more professional papers to respected journals or conference proceedings, in addition to their disquisition document. M.E. graduates will need to successfully pass a written examination.

Admission to the Graduate Program in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering is open to all qualified baccalaureate graduates from universities and colleges of recognized standing. In addition to meeting the requirements of the Graduate School, applicants are required to submit a GRE score. A minimum GRE score of 310 (Combined Quantitative and Verbal) with a minimum Quantitative score of 160 and an Analytical Writing score of 3.5 or higher is required.

Master of Science

The IME Department offers a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in the combined discipline of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. This program entails a total of 30 credits and is open to students who possess a bachelor's degree in a related engineering discipline. While students from other disciplines may be admitted to graduate study in either IME discipline, additional preparation in discipline-specific prerequisite topics may be required.

Master of Engineering

The Master of Engineering (M.E.) degree in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering is tailored to provide a graduate education option for professionals with limited time resources, making a full-fledged master's research option and thesis development impractical. This degree program comprises a minimum of 30 credits of study and includes a written examination. Various areas of emphasis are available for students pursuing this option.

Doctor of Philosophy

All doctoral degrees conferred by the IME Department are within the combined discipline of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. Doctoral students seeking specialization in specific fields within either industrial engineering or manufacturing engineering achieve their concentration through elective coursework and the selection of a dissertation topic.

Application Deadlines

Applications for graduate study in the IME Department should be sent to The Graduate School. In order to be assured of full consideration for fall admission, completed applications should be received by The Graduate School before March 1. Applicants seeking admission for spring semester should ensure that the application file is complete before August 15.
