Coating Substrates
Experimental coatings are prepared in 24-well plates (left image above) for a variety of analyses with bacteria, microalgae, fungi and mammalian cell-based assays. 24-well plates are typically modified with 15 mm diameter discs of various materials to facilitate solvent compatibility and promote good adhesion of coating films. Alternatively, coatings that are not amenable to solvent casting can be prepared on 15 mm discs that are affixed to a 4” x 8” panels and subsequently adhered into 24-well plates post curing. Coatings are prepared on 4” x 8” panels or 1”x 3” glass sides (right image above) for adult barnacle attachment and adhesion assessments.
