Carol Archbold, professor of criminal justice, has been invited to meet with the North Dakota Supreme Court's Minority Justice Committee on Thursday, Aug. 13, to discuss strategies to study justice and fairness issues within the state’s criminal justice system. The group wants to discuss the administration of justice with regard to race and ethnicity in the oil patch in western North Dakota.
Earlier this year, Archbold presented the findings of her research on law enforcement issues in the Bakken to several officials from the U.S. Department of Justice. High-ranking justice department officials and a representative form from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force attended the presentation.
Archbold conducted face-to-face interviews with more than 100 police officers and sheriff’s deputies from eight agencies in four western North Dakota counties from October 2012 to March 2013. The results were published in a study titled “Policing the Patch: An Examination of the Impact of the Oil Boom on Small Town Policing and Crime in Western North Dakota.”
