NDSU student receives grant to benefit elementary school

NDSU graduate student Michelle Crary recently received a $17,600 grant to improve fitness curriculum and equipment at a Fargo elementary school.

The Project Fit America grant benefits Kennedy Elementary School and surrounding neighborhoods. Crary is a physical education teacher at Kennedy.

In addition, NDSU researchers will study the effects of the added equipment and curriculum.

Joe Deutsch, NDSU associate professor of health, nutrition and exercise sciences and Fargo Park Board president, worked with fellow board members and other community partners to cover the installation fees for the nearly $56,000 project.

A kick-off celebration was held at Kennedy Elementary School on Oct. 9.

Project Fit America works to create and administer fitness education programming in elementary and middle schools.

As a student-focused, land-grant, research university, we serve our citizens.
