Katie Lyman, NDSU assistant professor of health nutrition and exercise sciences, was a featured speaker at the 30th annual research symposium of the Kinesio Taping Association Nov. 21-23 in Tokyo, Japan.

Lyman presented “Kinesio Taping as a Low-Cost Intervention to Assist with Quadriceps Muscle Recruitment During Exercise Countermeasures." The continuing study, partially funded by NASA, explores an innovative method of fitness for astronauts in low gravity environments. Thomas Hanson of Minnesota State University Moorhead provided data analysis for the research.

In addition to Lyman’s presentation, NDSU was represented by posters on “The Effects of the Space Correction Kinesio Taping Method on the Patellofemoral Joint Measured by Diagnostic Ultrasound” and “The Effects of Kinesio Taping Methods on the Subacromial Space” prepared by NDSU students and faculty.

NDSU is one of 12 educational institutions in the world that have been approved to provide Kinesio Taping certification within the academic curriculum.
