Dr. Kelly A. Rush, Vice President of the Office of Research and Creative Activity, has named NDSU Professor and current interim attending veterinarian Dr. Neil Dyer as attending veterinarian. 

Dr. Dyer has been involved with animal care at NDSU since 1995, when he joined the veterinary diagnostic laboratory (VDL) working under campus veterinarian Dr. Herb Smith. He served as director of the VDL for 20 years before stepping down at the end of 2016. Dr. Dyer has been involved in the regulatory aspects of animal research in a variety of capacities at NDSU including as part-time and backup attending veterinarian, chair of the NDSU Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and most recently, as interim attending veterinarian for the past nine months.

"I enjoy working with our researchers and helping them be successful in their activities," commented Dyer. "With any animal research, the regulatory burden can be heavy at times and I gain satisfaction by helping researchers navigate the requirements and streamline their processes while remaining compliant."

"Given his knowledge, experience, and years of service at NDSU, Neil is the perfect person for this role," stated Rusch. "He is well-known and respected by everyone at NDSU and his knowledge of both large and small animal research protocols is unmatched."

Dr. Dyer is a Bismarck native who received his BS in Zoology from NDSU and DVM and MS in veterinary pathology from Iowa State University. He has experience in exotic, small animal, and mixed animal practices and has served as a track veterinarian, taught courses in animal health, worked as diagnostic pathologist, and facilitated animal care and use at NDSU.
