Alumna CeCe Morken talks career, technology and more

Published May 2017

NDSU alumna CeCe Morken recently spoke with College of Business students about her career and the importance of business ethics, character and leadership.

Major: Economics and sociology, 1979

Lives and works in: Dallas

Current position and responsibilities?  I lead Intuit’s ProConnect Group as the general manager. I’m responsible for strategy, products, operations, sales and marketing and customer care.  We develop cloud-based solutions to help accountants and their consumer and small business clients prosper. I lead an amazing team.

How did NDSU prepare you for your career? When I first started school, I thought success was about how much I knew.  What I discovered is the opposite. It’s about how much we can learn and discover and the value of an ever-curious mind that is focused more on discovery and experimentation. As a result, today I spend at least 20 percent of my time in experiments, external learning, reverse mentoring, shadowing both external leaders and early career talent and engaging in global cultures.

What is your favorite NDSU memory?  Meeting my husband of almost 35 years.

Any advice for current students? Technology is rapidly changing our world and that change is accelerating. Skate to where the puck is going, not where it is. Solve big problems where you have the most passion. Tackle the ones that no one else wants. Remain intellectually curious for life. I learned from my boss, Intuit’s CEO, that life is a team sport and it is better to have an all-star team than a team of all-stars.

How do you like to stay involved with NDSU?  I have recently become more involved with NDSU by joining the College of Business advisory board and would love to engage further to help prepare future graduates to become small business owners.  And of course, we are thrilled when the NDSU football team plays the national championship game in nearby Frisco.
