Alumna places in international song competition

Published March 2017

NDSU alumna Clara Osowski recently competed with 25 of the best young vocalists in the world and earned a place among the top three performers.

She placed 2nd in the 2017 Das Lied International Song Competition held in Heidelberg, Germany. She is the only American and the only woman to take a top vocal prize at the 2017 competition, and she is the first American to be a prize winner since the competition began in 2009.

As a top competitor, she will have the opportunity to perform concerts in London, Madrid and again in Heidelberg at the Heidelberger Frühling music festival in April.

Osowski is an award-winning soloist and chamber musician who performs throughout the United States and Europe. Earlier in 2017, she won the Saengerbund Awards German Vocal Competition in Houston, and previously was a finalist in the 2015 Das Lied competition. She sings with the Rose Ensemble and Seraphic Fire, internationally touring vocal ensembles.

She is the co-founder of and serves as the associate artistic director of the annual Source Song Festival in Minneapolis. She graduated from NDSU in 2008 with a bachelor of music in vocal performance, and received her master of arts degree in voice from the University of Iowa in 2010. She is a native of Carrington, North Dakota.

Osowski was accompanied by Tyler Wottrich, assistant professor of piano, Challey School of Music, at the song competition.
