Gate City Bank finds great employees among NDSU students and graduates

Published December 2017

Employers in the Fargo area like to hire NDSU graduates. Amanda Torok, culture and engagement officer at Gate City Bank, talks about her company’s business efforts and reflects on her time at NDSU as a student.

What kind of work does Gate City Bank do?

Gate City Bank is a local community bank founded in 1923. We offer checking, savings and loan programs. We're also touching lives in the communities we serve. In 2016, our employees volunteered over 12,700 hours and we donated $1.8 million to the communities we serve.

How many locations does Gate City Bank have and how many total number of employees?

Gate City Bank has 36 locations in 19 communities across North Dakota and Western Minnesota. Gate City Bank currently has 595 employees.

What are the top qualities and/or skills Gate City Bank looks for in new hires?

We are looking for employees who want to grow with the bank and fit our culture.

Why does Gate City Bank hire NDSU graduates?

NDSU has a lot of strong accounting and finance graduates. With our corporate office in downtown Fargo and being huge supporters of NDSU, it’s great to see a lot of NDSU students start with us part-time and grow to full-time employees in various positions and departments.

Since you attended NDSU, what is your favorite NDSU memory and what does NDSU mean to you personally?

There is a lot of pride that comes from attending a great school like NDSU. I am proud to be an NDSU alumna. My favorite memories associated with my time at NDSU are the lifelong relationships I have made. I met my husband while attending NDSU and even seven years after graduating, we are still very close with our friends we met in college. I also felt I received a great education and professors who were genuinely invested in my future. I believe this has helped me succeed in my career and opened the door for many opportunities.
