PEOPLE OF NDSU

Jim Hill, son of Professor Hill

Published October 2016

Today was a special day for NDSU Alumna Linda (Hill) Kuck. NDSU’s new STEM education building now officially bears the name of her father, A. Glenn Hill. In addition, a statue of the late professor was unveiled on the plaza near the building.

Hill, who died in 1967, was a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics from 1927 to 1967 and chair of the department from 1943 to 1967. He had a profound impact on generations of scientists and engineers who graduated from NDSU.

Kuck, BA ’70, English, MEd ’96, education, is a retired educator who now lives in Rapid City, South Dakota.

She said her father came from a line of teachers, and he considered education vital to his life. Kuck said that was her father’s driving force behind his mentorship to many NDSU students during his career on the faculty.

“Education was everything to my father, and he would be flabbergasted at this honor,” Kuck said. “For him to have a building and a statue, and to be brought to the attention of so many people would be an honor to him.”
