NDSU hires entrepreneurship director

NDSU’s College of Business has hired Scott David Meyer to serve as the executive director of entrepreneurship initiatives.
His role is to foster connections on campus and in the community that help develop NDSU’s entrepreneurship program. He will be responsible for teaching, creating events, connecting with resources on campus and in the community, and looking for what NDSU, in partnership with city and state leaders, needs to build a more dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystem.
“I am thrilled for this new opportunity,” Meyer said. “Entrepreneurship is an essential topic and skill for students, businesses and the health of our communities. It may start with an individual goal or vision, but this work ultimately creates the communities we want to be a part of.”
Meyer brings a mix of academic and business experience to the position. He started his career as a lecturer and researcher at The Arctic University of Norway. Then he became an entrepreneur, starting several companies, including 9 Clouds, a digital marketing company for car dealers based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He has led that company for the last nine years.
Meyer is a former city councilor who founded TEDxBrookings, Creativity Week and 1 Million Cups in Brookings. He has been awarded The South Dakota Spirit of Entrepreneurship, Top 40 Under 40 by Prairie Business Journal and Young Entrepreneur of the Year in South Dakota.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and a master’s in peace and conflict transformation from The Arctic University of Norway.
“We’re excited about Scott’s experience starting a company in an entrepreneurial community similar to ours and working in academia,” said Scott Beaulier, dean of the NDSU College of Business. “He is a collaborator, and our students will benefit from his work ethic and optimism.”
NDSU’s entrepreneurship program currently includes an entrepreneurship minor and certificate. Students can expect to see more entrepreneurship events, richer course content and increased job opportunities. Students can also expect to learn what’s possible when they have ideas and how to make opportunities for themselves, wherever they are.
“The university is a safe place to take risks,” Meyer said. “Through education and real-world experiences, we’ll prepare students to start their own ventures with more confidence.”
