NDSU partners with area companies to introduce girls to STEM careers

Published February 26, 2015

A panel of NDSU Society of Women Engineers answered questions and offered advice to more than 130 eighth-grade girls at NDSU as part of Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day Feb. 24.

Introduce a Girl to Engineering brought more than 130 area eighth-graders to NDSU to learn about science, technology, engineering and math.

The NDSU College of Engineering and area companies hosted the event as part of National Discover Engineers Week to foster interest in science, technology, engineering and math, commonly known as STEM.

The morning began with students from Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo public schools visiting with female engineers at John Deere Electronic Solutions, KLJ Engineering, Bobcat Co. and Moore Engineering. The students capped the day at NDSU by using masking tape and paper to construct a device that could protect a potato chip from a three-second dunk in water.
