Innovation Challenge ’15 to showcase students’ ideas

North Dakota State University and the NDSU Research and Technology Park are scheduled to host the Innovation Challenge student competition.

Twenty-three teams will present their ideas for new, progressive products, services or corn-based innovations to the public and judges on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Memorial Union:

  • 8:30 a.m. to 1:35 p.m., product presentations, Arikara Room
  • 8:30 a.m. to 1:35 p.m., service presentations, Rose Room
  • 8:30 a.m. to 10:40 a.m., corn innovation presentations, Hidatsa Room

The team with the top innovation in each category will win $5,000, with cash prizes also being awarded for second and third place in each category and the People’s Choice Award. A total of $20,000 will be awarded to winning teams. The North Dakota Corn Growers Association is a major sponsor of the competition.

Winners will be announced at an awards luncheon Thursday, Feb. 26, 11:30 a.m., at the Fargodome. The keynote speaker will be Dr. David Pearce, president for research at Sanford Health. He also serves as director of the Sanford Children’s Health and Research Center.

The purpose of the Innovation Challenge is to:

  • Encourage students to be innovative thinkers.
  • Enhance student awareness for innovation as a precursor to entrepreneurship.
  • Empower students to pursue entrepreneurship as a career choice.
  • Expand student access to resources available for innovators and entrepreneurs.
  • Engage the current entrepreneur and business communities with students.
