NDSU holds spring break safety session

Published March 09, 2015

NDSU has scheduled its annual spring break safety session, “The 5 S’s of Spring Break,” for Wednesday, March 11, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Memorial Union Century Theater.

Representatives from Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Prevention Programs, the North Dakota Department of Health, NDSU Wellness Center, Sexual Assault Prevention Programs and University Police will present on topics, such as high-risk alcohol use, myths and realities of sexual assault and sun safety.

NDSU has scheduled its annual spring break safety session. Experts from campus and the North Dakota Department of Health cover health and safety issues commonly associated with spring break activities.

“We want students to be smart, safe and secure,” said Nick Redenius, coordinator for NDSU’s Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Prevention Programs. “The decisions they make during spring break impact their health and success back on campus. We want them to make healthy, wise and secure choices, and to be there for friends as well.”

Free spring break toolkits will be distributed. The kits include literature on campus safety programs, resources on sexual assault violence prevention, sunscreen and other items.

Emily Hegg, wellness education coordinator at the NDSU Wellness Center, said the tips will be useful for students whether they travel, go home or stay on or near campus during spring break and throughout the year. “Staying safe is important no matter where you are,” she said.
