Statistics chair has article on faculty work environment accepted for publication

Rhonda Magel, professor and chair of the Department of Statistics, had her article, “Does Work Environment Affect Faculty Health Scores?” accepted for publication by Sociology Mind.

The article is based on faculty responses from a work-life survey conducted in February 2009 as part of the FORWARD project. Magel is co-principal investigator of the National Science Foundation-funded Advance FORWARD.

Magel concluded that if universities want to work on improving the health of their faculty, they need to spent time on improving the entire university environment for all faculty. Faculty health scores were affected by several factors: how faculty thought they were treated, whether they thought their work was valued, and whether they thought their opinions were sought and mattered.

Sociology Mind publishes research related to a critical understanding of new social and cultural forces that call for scientific interpretation and analysis of facts and values.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
