Chair of civil and environmental engineering presents at Warren Lecture Series

Katti

Dinesh Katti, professor and interim chair of civil and environmental engineering, presented a lecture Oct. 18 as part of the University of Minnesota’s Warren Lecture Series.

The series brings accomplished scholars from around the world to the University of Minnesota Department of Civil Engineering to share their research with students and faculty.

Katti presented “Mechanics of Nanomaterials: The Pivotal Role of Molecular Interactions.” The talk expounded on the dominant role of molecular interactions on the mechanics of nanomaterials that include biological and synthetic nanocomposites and smectite clays. The presentation focused on four nanomaterials – nacre, which is the inner layer of seashells, bone, polymer-clay nanocomposites and swelling clays.

Katti’s research expertise is in multiscale modeling of materials. He joined NDSU in 1996.
