Bison football coach receives second Eddie Robinson Award

NDSU head football coach Craig Bohl has been honored with his second straight Eddie Robinson Award, which recognizes the Football Championship Subdivision coach of the year. The announcement was made Dec. 16.

That feat had not been accomplished before in the 27-year history of the award, which is presented by The Sports Network. The only other two-time winner is former James Madison University coach Mickey Matthews, who was honored in 1999 and 2008.

Bohl collected 42 first-place votes and 418 points from a national panel of 147 sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and dignitaries. Eastern Illinois University's Dino Babers finished second in the voting with 370 points, while Jack Cosgrove of the University of Maine was third with 260 points.

The Bison host New Hampshire in the FCS playoffs Friday, Dec. 20, at 7 p.m. at the Fargodome. Bohl's 13-0 Bison are two victories shy of capturing a third straight FCS national championship. Only the 2005-07 teams at Appalachian State University have previously accomplished a three-peat.

Bohl will leave NDSU following this season to become head coach at the University of Wyoming.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation’s top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
