Two NDSU communications professionals were honored for their work in the North Dakota Professional Communicators 2014 communications contest.
Ellen Crawford, information specialist in Agriculture Communication, received the second-place sweepstakes award.
Sweepstakes winners are determined by a point system. Points are based on the number of entries in each category. The more entries in a category, the higher number of points awarded to those placing in the category.
Crawford received awards in 10 categories:
• First – news story for her article on the NDSU Beef Cattle Research Complex
• First – specialty articles for her articles on NDSU’s soil health initiative and Extension’s livestock stewardship efforts
• First – specialty articles for her articles on the 4-H National Youth Science Day and Extension’s programming for parents and grandparents
• First – PR materials (reports) for Rural Leadership North Dakota’s 2011-13 class summary publication
• First – PR materials (educational brochures) for her work on Extension’s family and consumer sciences brochure
• First – information for the media (multiple news releases on one topic) for her articles on the planned renovations and construction of a multipurpose center at the North Dakota 4-H Camp near Washburn
• Second – specialty articles for her articles on weather-related livestock losses and when to wean calves
• Second – publication edited by entrant for her editing of the Ranch Hand newsletter
• Second – book edited by entrant for her editing of “The Gib Bromenschenkel Story”
• Third – information for the media (single news release) for her article on NDSU researchers’ efforts to combat bacteria that can cause serious foodborne illnesses
Carol Renner, communications manager for the Office of the Vice President for Research and Creative Activity, received:
• First – communications programs (audiovisual) for a video on NDSU being one of the few universities in the world with a department that focuses on polymers and coatings
• First – information for the media (single news release) for her article on antennaless radio-frequency identification tags
• Second – information for the media (single news release) for her article on research showing that the leaves of plants where Spix’s disc-winged bats live can amplify and transmit the bats’ social calls
The awards were presented at NDPC’s annual conference in Fargo earlier this month.
NDSU is recognized as one of the nation’s top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
