Personnel from NDSU’s Center for Nanoscale Science and Engineering have published an article on their research using sapphire in the manufacture of sensors. The article appeared in the July/August issue of Chip Scale Review.

The five-page article, titled “Sapphire as a sensor platform,” was written by Syed Sajid Ahmad, engineering services manager; Fred Haring, fabrication technician; Greg Strommen, engineering technician; Kevin Mattson, fabrication technician; and Aaron Reinholz, assistant director for electronics technology.

According to the article’s summary, “Sapphire provides a robust and reliable platform to provide highly densified, miniature and compact electronic systems for use on earth and in space for applications in every sphere of life.”

Established in 2002, research at the Center for Nanoscale Science and Engineering spans a range of areas, with a particular focus on microelectronics and coatings technologies. It is located at the NDSU Research & Technology Park.
