The works of 24 full-time studio art instructors at NDSU, Concordia College and Minnesota State University Moorhead are scheduled to be displayed in “Art Boom: The Tri-College Art Faculty Show” at the Plains Art Museum in Fargo. 

An opening reception is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 9, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with pizza, appetizers, beverages and cash bar. The event is free for members and Tri-college students, $10 for nonmembers. The exhibit runs through Jan. 4, 2015.

Each artist will display a group of works, and the show features an array of styles and media, including painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, mixed-media, photography and installation art.

Participating NDSU visual arts faculty include Nate Booth, lecturer; Kimble Bromley, associate professor; Kent Kapplinger, associate professor; Meghan Kirkwood, assistant professor; Su Legatt, lecturer; Daniel Siverson, studio technician; David Swenson, associate professor; and Michael Strand, department head.

“Art Boom recognizes the contributions of these higher education institutions in establishing the foundation for the visual arts in Fargo-Moorhead and acknowledges the current faculty’s continued influence on the arts community,” said Becky Dunham, museum curator.

In addition, Strand is set to participate in “Art School 3.0” at the museum. 
On Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 6 p.m., he is scheduled to join museum director Colleen Sheehy and MSUM and Concordia art department leaders Kelli Sinner and Peter Schultz for a panel discussion about the exhibit. Panel members also will share insights on the state of college art departments and future trends. The event is free and open to the public.

Faculty Showcase Gallery Talks are scheduled in December. The free talks start at 1 p.m. and last about 30 minutes. Dates and topics are Dec. 2, Paintings; Dec. 4, Photography; Dec. 9, Ceramics and Sculpture; and Dec. 11, Prints and Drawings.

The exhibition and related events are sponsored by The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead and a grant from the Tri-College Fund.
