Pharmaceutical sciences research lecture scheduled

Lisa Cassis, professor and chair of molecular and biomedical pharmacology at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, is scheduled to deliver the next NDSU Pharmaceutical Sciences Research Lecture Thursday, Nov. 13, at 11 a.m. in Sudro Hall room 21.

Her lecture is titled “Renin Angiotensin System in Vascular Disease.”

Her research focuses on the renin-angiotensin system in metabolic and vascular diseases. A primary research interest is the study of production of components of the renin-angiotensin system by adipocytes, and the impact of an adipose renin-angiotensin system on the development of obesity and obesity-associated diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and atherosclerosis.

Cassis has published 132 research papers, nine book chapters and holds a patent. She also is interim vice president for research at the University of Kentucky.

Cassis’ research has received funding from the National Institutes of Health, American Heart Association and other agencies. She serves on National Institutes of Health and American Heart Association review panels, the editorial board of American Journal of Physiology and as associate editor of Gender Medicine.

The seminar is open to all persons interested in biomedical research. For further information, contact Jagdish Singh, professor and chair of pharmaceutical sciences, at 701-231-7943.
