Valentine Victory Blood Drive scheduled

The 24th annual Bison Valentine Victory Blood Drive is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesday, Feb. 11, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the NDSU Memorial Union Plains room.

The goal for the two-day event is 400 units with several on-campus organizations collaborating to reach the goal. "It is an opportunity for our students, athletes and members of the NDSU community to help those in need," said Matt Larsen, NDSU director of athletics. "Demand is high at our local blood banks, so every donation helps tremendously."

The purpose of the blood drive is to involve all athletics staff, student-athletes and coaches from each of NDSU’s 16 intercollegiate sports. Each NDSU student-athlete is encouraged to recruit as many volunteers as possible for the blood drive.

Landin Rognlin, president of the NDSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, encourages people to donate. "The odds are very good, that in a lifetime, each of us will know of someone who is desperately in need of blood. What a better gift to give to someone in need than to provide a unit of blood," he said.

In addition to student-athletes involvement, Larsen said other student organization have joined in the effort. "Together, the NDSU community has the opportunity to make a significant difference," he said.

Appointments are scheduled every 15 minutes, but walk-ins are welcome. To schedule a time, call United Blood Services at 701-293-9453 or go to BloodHero.com and use the sponsor code "athletics."

While NDSU is inclusive in its policies, current federal regulations prevent particular individuals and groups from donating blood at this time. Please be aware that some members of our campus population may not be able to donate blood for a wide variety of reasons.
