One-act play part of Black History Month events at NDSU

A one-act play depicting a fictional secret meeting between Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. is part of Black History Month events scheduled at NDSU. Black History Month is held in February each year.

“The Meeting” is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union Great room. The three-actor play was written in 1987 by Jeff Stetson. Staged in a Harlem, New York, hotel in 1965, they debate their varying approaches to the same social problems. Differing in their philosophies but alike in their mutual respect, the two men manage to find common ground as champions for civil rights.

The play is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Programs and Campus Attractions Issues and Ideas.

Malcolm X was assassinated in 1965. King was assassinated in 1968. Both were 39.

Campus Attractions also is sponsoring the showing of two films during Black History Month. “Remember the Titans” is slated to be shown Feb. 20 and 21 and “Dear White People” is scheduled Feb. 27 and 28. Showings are slated for 9:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union Century Theater.
