Events planned to mark National Transportation Week

NDSU’s Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute has planned a series of events to mark the 2015 observation of National Transportation Week, May 11-15.

Riders of MATBUS will be treated to ice cream floats on Monday, May 11. MATBUS also has declared the day as Free Fare Day to kick off National Transportation Week in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

The institute is set to host an open house Tuesday, May 12, from 2-4 p.m. Tour the institute’s offices, meet staff and students and learn about recent institute research. Visitors will be welcomed at the institute's main office in 448 Quentin Burdick Building or in the lower level of Hastings Hall.

Dan Zink, director of administration for the Red River Valley and Western Railroad based in Wahpeton, North Dakota, is scheduled to give a presentation Wednesday, May 13, at 1 p.m. in the Memorial Union Arikara Room. Zink will draw on more than 20 years of railroad experience to look ahead at trends, troubles and opportunities in North Dakota rail freight.

Shaun Bruggeman, general manager of the Fargo office of CH Robinson, is scheduled to give a presentation Thursday, May 14, at 10 a.m. in the Memorial Union Hidatsa Room. Bruggeman will give his perspective on third-party logistics.
