Central Grasslands Research Extension Center to hold field day

Grazing issues will be the focus of the July 11 field day at NDSU’s Central Grasslands Research Extension Center near Streeter, North Dakota.

The program is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to noon, with lunch served at noon.

Topics include:

• Providing mature cows that are grazing corn residue with dried distillers grains with solubles to supplement their diet

• Effects of hay bale type and storage techniques

• Monitoring the mineral intake of grazing livestock

• Effects of advancing season and grazing intensity on forage intake and digestibility

• Effects of stocking rate on parasite load in yearling steers

• Using a grazing stick to measure pasture use

Here are directions to the center:

• From Interstate 94: Drive 10 miles south on North Dakota Highway 30, then five miles west on 48th Street and one-fourth mile south on 48th Avenue

• From Streeter: Travel four miles north on North Dakota Highway 30, then five miles west on 48th Street and one-fourth mile south on 48th Avenue

The event is free of charge.
