Aakre and Haugen create wind turbine lease publication

With the recent increase in wind farm development in the state, landowners are searching for guidance before signing a wind turbine lease. Dwight Aakre and Ron Haugen, NDSU Extension farm management specialists, have written a new publication titled "Wind Turbine Lease Considerations for Landowners.”

"This publication outlines considerations for landowners who are considering signing a wind turbine lease," Aakre says. "Contract specifications, including lease payment structure and liability issues, are outlined."

"All considerations involving a wind turbine lease are discussed from a landowner's perspective," Haugen says. "However, a qualified attorney should be contacted before signing any lease."

To obtain "Wind Turbine Lease Considerations for Landowners," call 1-7882 or write to NDSU Agriculture Communication Distribution Center, Dept 7070, PO Box 6050, 10 Morrill Hall, Fargo, ND 58108-6050. Requests also may be faxed to 1-7044 or e-mailed to NDSU.distributioncenter@ndsu.edu.

The publication also is available through NDSU Extension county offices and is on the Web at www.ag.ndsu.edu/pubs/farmmgt.html.
