Northern Crops Institute hosts international grain buyers

The Northern Crops Institute, located on the NDSU campus, is hosting grain buyers from 16 countries Sept. 12-21. During the course, approximately 25 participants are learning how companies can make more effective grain purchases while decreasing their financial risk.

Participants will be introduced to U.S. grain export handling and logistics, basic hedging principles, risk management tools and take part in hands-on trading exercises.

Course highlights are on-site tours of the Bill Hejl farm, Amenia, North Dakota; Hunter Grain Co., Hunter, North Dakota; Duluth/Superior Port Facilities; CHS Export Grain Terminal, Superior, Wisconsin; Minneapolis Grain Exchange; and the CHS Barge Facility, Savage, Minnesota.

The institute supports regional agriculture and value-added processing by conducting educational and technical programs that expand and maintain domestic and international markets. It is funded by the states of Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota and commodity groups in those states and Montana.
