Three NDSU employees have been recognized by North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple with the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Public Service. A total of six awards were presented during a luncheon Sept. 12 at the state capitol, kicking off State Employee Recognition Week.

The NDSU staff members included Jean Hagen, administrative assistant with aerospace studies; Dorothy Wilson of NDSU Dining Services; and Jim Stalboerger, maintenance and repair technician with Facilities Management.

“North Dakota’s state employees are the best in the nation, and the six individuals recognized today represent the outstanding work that is performed by state employees every day across our state,” Dalrymple said during the presentation. “We applaud them for their exemplary service and faithful dedication to North Dakota and its citizens.”

Recipients were nominated by their peers and selected by a committee of judges. Nominees were rated on their overall job performance, contributions to their department, commitment to customer service, working relationship with fellow workers and involvement in their community.

“Thank you to the Air Force ROTC staff for their support over the years,” said Hagen, who was recognized in the Office Support category. “The Department of Aerospace Studies always makes me feel appreciated. This is the only department I have worked in, so I made the right choice when coming to NDSU in 1999.”

Wilson, who will celebrate two decades as an NDSU employee next month, was selected in the Services category. “I feel really honored, and I’m grateful to work at a place where I can be recognized,” Wilson said, noting she was nominated by Rosie Wagner, her former supervisor. “I feel appreciated at NDSU – my 20 years as an employee have not gone unnoticed.”

“I’m honored to win the award, but it’s a team effort here at Facilities Management,” said Stalboerger, who was recognized in the Trades and Crafts category, and has been an NDSU employee for eight years. “The rest of the guys deserve it more than I do. It’s a great honor for me to work at a fine institution like NDSU.”

Other state employees receiving awards included Jesse Hanson, director of the Planning Division for the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department; Sandy Eichhorn, customer service specialist for Job Service North Dakota at Wahpeton, North Dakota; and Christie Massen, assistant director for the Division of Laboratory Services- Microbiology for the North Dakota Department of Health in Bismarck, North Dakota.
