The President’s Council on Alcohol and Other Drugs is scheduled to host a biennial town hall meeting Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. in NDSU’s Harry D. McGovern Alumni Center. A networking social is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.

The focus will be alcohol and drug misuse, with meeting participants sharing concerns and presenting ideas to address those issues. The event will feature speakers, including current and former NDSU students, who have been instrumental in the council’s preventative efforts. There also will be opportunities for discussion, questions and networking.

According to Matt Larsen, director of athletics and council co-chair, the NDSU President’s Council on Alcohol and Other Drugs stands out among other collegiate prevention programs because of extensive investment and commitment from its stakeholders.

“This meeting is an opportunity to celebrate and reinvigorate the students, faculty, staff, administrators and community members who are essential to the council’s past and continued success,” Larsen said.

Since 2007, council members have implemented comprehensive, evidence-based strategies to promote a culture where low-risk decisions on alcohol and other drug use are the norm. The council strives to reduce the harmful effects of alcohol and other drug misuse for members of the NDSU and surrounding communities.

“Student-led initiatives have led to many of the council’s achievements in shaping the culture of the NDSU campus,” said Laura Oster-Aaland, associate vice provost for enrollment management. “We are excited to feature several guest speakers who will highlight the prevention progress and remaining challenges from the student perspective.”
