NDSU student-athlete named semifinalist for Campbell Trophy

The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame announced NDSU running back Chase Morlock as one of the 156 semifinalists for the 2016 William V. Campbell Trophy, presented by Fidelity Investments. The award recognizes the best football scholar-athlete in the nation and is prominently displayed inside its official home at the New York Athletic Club.

Morlock is a senior from Moorhead, Minnesota. He is majoring in exercise science with a minor in psychology. He has received numerous academic honors, including the 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-District team, 2015 Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Academic Second Team, 2014 MVFC All-Academic Honorable Mention, the 2014 and 2015 MVFC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award and MVFC Honor Roll in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

The foundation is scheduled to announce 12-14 finalists on Nov. 1, and each will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the National Scholar-Athlete Class, presented by Fidelity Investments. Finalists will attend the 59th annual awards dinner Dec. 6. in New York.

The award is named in honor of the late Bill Campbell, former chairman of Intuit, former player and head coach at Columbia University and the 2004 recipient of the foundation’s Gold Medal.

Nominated by their schools, which are limited to one nominee each, candidates for the awards must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of eligibility, have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, have outstanding football ability as a first team player or significant contributor and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship.
