Research Experience for Undergraduates program seeks applicants

Applications are being accepted by the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program of North Dakota Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research, known as ND EPSCoR.

The program provides students the opportunity to work in the Center for Regional Climate Studies or the Center for Sustainable Materials Science alongside faculty on cutting-edge research projects in chemistry, materials science, engineering, hydrology, agribusiness and applied economics and atmospheric sciences, while learning scientific research and communication skills.

The program is primarily geared toward undergraduate students in STEM disciplines during the award period of June 1, 2017, through May 31, 2018. Students must be enrolled at one of four North Dakota University System primarily undergraduate institutions located in Dickinson, Mayville, Minot or Valley City; one of the five tribal colleges located in North Dakota; NDSU or the University of North Dakota. Additional selection criteria, application forms and additional information are available online.

Applications are due by noon, Feb. 2, 2017. Students selected for the program receive a $5,000 salary and up to an additional $2,500 for summer housing if the REU activity is not at the student’s home campus. The research project must total 200 hours in the summer, during the academic year or a combination of the two.

North Dakota EPSCoR is a federally and state funded program designed to improve the ability of university researchers to compete more effectively for federal, regional and private research grants in the sciences, engineering and mathematics.
