Jeremy Straub, assistant professor of computer science, has published a viewpoint article in the January issue of the Communications of the Association for Computing Machinery.

The article, titled “Effects of International Trafficking in Arms Regulations Changes,” focuses on how recent changes to the International Trafficking in Arms Regulations could impact the commercial software industry, computer science research and education.

According to the association, Communications of the ACM is the organization’s flagship publication, with a circulation of more than 119,000.

“The Communications of the ACM is a highly respected and widely read publication within computer science and related disciplines. Having an article in this publication draws attention to NDSU and our strength in the computing disciplines,” said Straub.

The article is only the second one from North Dakota and NDSU to appear in the publication. The last article was published in 1995 by former NDSU computer science faculty member Ronald Vetter.

“This article, in particular, is important because it discusses the impact of recent and proposed changes to federal regulations on both academic and private sector computing,” Straub said.

Straub earned his doctorate from the University of North Dakota. His research interests include such areas as artificial and computational intelligence, autonomy applications in aerospace, cybersecurity and issues regarding 3D printing.
