Suzzanne Kelley, NDSU Press editor in chief and assistant professor of practice, was recently elected president of the Midwest Independent Publishing Association.

Founded in 1984, the association is based in St. Paul, Minnesota, and includes a 12-state region. It is a professional nonprofit association that serves the upper-Midwest independent publishing community through education, networking and peer recognition. The association is a sponsor of the Midwest Book Awards and a regional affiliate of the Independent Book Publishers Association.

“As a long-time member of MIPA, I have benefited from its opportunities for professional development. I look forward now to contributing to this important resource for publishers across our region,” Kelley said.

Kelley earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas – Austin, her master’s degree in history from the University of Central Oklahoma, a certificate in publishing from Minnesota State University Moorhead and her doctorate in history from NDSU.

She has worked in the publishing business since 2002. Kelley teaches publishing courses in conjunction with the activities of NDSU Press, offering students experiential learning opportunities in the history, business and practice of publishing.
