NDSU is set to host the third annual Showcase of Student Writing, scheduled for Monday, Dec. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Memorial Union Great Plains Ballroom. The NDSU community and the public are invited to attend.
The event will celebrate the achievements of student writers and highlight the diverse range of writing created by undergraduate students. Students of more than 50 teachers from the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and the College of Human Development and Education will display their work.
“In many workplaces you’ll hear people say, ‘If it isn’t written, it didn’t happen.’ That’s because writing creates a record, which allows us to communicate over the distance of time, as well as the distance of geography,” said Bruce Maylath, professor of English and director of Upper-Division Writing. “The ability to write clearly is essential to the work of professionals. NDSU students become professionals by the time that they graduate, in part, by learning how to write for other professionals. The showcase displays their development as professionals who write.”
Participating students will be recognized for their efforts with pop-up prizes that will be presented by anonymous roaming judges.
“We are thrilled to receive significant support for this event across the university and in the local community,” said Lisa Arnold, assistant professor of English and director of First-Year Writing. “This year’s showcase is going to be bigger and better than ever, and we are looking forward to seeing all the great writing our students have done this semester.”
