NDSU is scheduled to host several events during “Public Health Week and Beyond,” including the annual Mary J. Berg Public Health Week Keynote Speaker. Dr. Avish Nagpal, medical director of Sanford Fargo Infectious Disease Control, is set to present “Chronic Hepatitis and Women’s Health,” Thursday, April 5, at 11:30 a.m. in EML 183.

Nagpal’s research and practice center on infectious disease specialty areas such as cardiovascular infections, health care-associated infections, transplant-related infections and infectious hepatitis.

“Public Health Week at NDSU highlights the breadth of disciplines focusing on prevention of disease and promotion of health from a health equity and social justice lens,” explained Abby Gold, vice chair and associate professor of public health. “The Department of Public Health hopes to connect the campus community and beyond with ways to think about how their individual health is obtained, sustained and measured as a part of a system rather than only as individuals. When large segments of our society are less healthy and more vulnerable than others, the impact of an individual approach to health and health care, pulls everyone into the realm of unhealthiness. Through highlighting important topics during Public Health Week, we hope to show positive examples of what can be done as a community and a nation to promote health for all.”

Other events include:

• A screening of the film “From the Ashes” Thursday, March 29, at 5 p.m. in Memorial Union Century Theater

• Global Health Day on Tuesday, April 3, in the Memorial Union

• American Indian Public Health day on Wednesday, April 4, in the Memorial Union

• Health Equity and Social Justice: Bridging the Gap on Tuesday, April 10, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the NDSU McGovern Alumni Center

The activities are sponsored by the NDSU College of Health Professions Mary J. Berg Fund and the Department of Public Health.
