NDSU to host national power symposium

NDSU is set to host the 50th annual North American Power Symposium Sept. 9-11. The event brings together about 175 graduate students, faculty and researchers in the energy and power systems field.

The conference is chaired by NDSU electrical and computer engineering faculty members Rajesh Kavasseri, Di Wu and Dong Cao.

“The symposium is an excellent forum for participants, especially students, to present and receive feedback on their research. It maintains its long-standing tradition to strongly encourage, support and recognize students for their participation,” they said.

The event features two plenary sessions by industry experts.

The first session is “Teaching and Research in Changing Electric Energy Systems: Back to Principles and Why Would it Help?” presented by Marija Ilic, Carnegie Mellon University professor emerita, senior staff in the Energy Systems Group 73 of the MIT Lincoln Laboratory and senior research scientist at MIT Institute for Data, Systems and Society; and Ned Mohan, University of Minnesota’s Oscar A. Schott Professor of Power Electronic Systems and Morse-Alumni Distinguished Professor.

The second session is “Key Insights to Career Management” by John D. McDonald, smart grid business development leader for GE Powers’ Grid Solutions.

The event also will include dozens of technical presentations and break-out paper sessions.

The symposium is supported by the National Science Foundation, IEEE Power and Energy Society and regional entities.
