The NDSU Memorial Union Gallery is featuring an exhibition of the works of the late artist and architect Jim Falck alongside NDSU student artists who have benefited from his endowment. The exhibition is scheduled through Oct. 11. A reception is set for Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 5 p.m. 

Gallery events are free to the public and all are invited to attend.

In 2015, NDSU’s Department of Visual Arts received an endowment and artwork totaling $3.6 million. Falck, who died in 2013 at age 84, wanted to ensure that future artists would have the support to pursue their dreams. His gift is intended to also provide program development, faculty development and international programs.

Over the last three years, the department has increased opportunities through scholarships, student travel abroad, faculty development, expansion of the Visual Arts Library and most recently, an expansion of a Visiting Artist/Scholar Program featuring four visiting professionals who actively engage with students in discussion of craft, practice and professionalism. 

“Mr. Falck’s gift includes not only giving student’s opportunities to experience ideas and places that will support their growth, but he shared with NDSU a collection of hundreds of paintings and drawings. We had planned to show several of his works in this year’s art collection exhibit but after seeing how well our students who have received scholarships from the endowment are doing, we thought it might be a good idea to have a collaborative show. This show will feature Jim’s work beside the artworks he made possible,” said gallery coordinator Anthony Faris. “This show would literally not be possible without Mr. Falck.”
