F. Adnan Akyüz, professor of climatological practice and state climatologist, has been selected as an expert representing the United States by the World Meteorological Organization Commission on Climatology.

According to commission president M. Brunet, the group’s management group identified experts for its various working structures, and Akyüz was named to the Expert Team on Communication and Outreach.

“I am honored to be the one named as a team member from the U.S. whose responsibilities are to advise and guide the activities of the World Climate Program, particularly through the World Climate Services Program, including climate applications and services, climate education, and climate data and monitoring,” said Akyüz.

The committee meets once a year in Geneva, Switzerland. “My biggest challenge is going to be fitting the face-to-face meeting in my teaching schedule, as I have never missed a teaching session so far,” Akyüz said.

The Commission for Climatology advises and guides the activities of the World Climate Services Program, including climate applications, data and monitoring. Its vision is to provide global leadership in climatology expertise and cooperation.
